Our Research Areas
The Centre for Bio Materials, Cellular, and Molecular Theranostics (CBCMT), established in 2013 under the esteemed leadership of Prof. Geetha Manivasagam, is a pioneering interdisciplinary research center within VIT. Our mission is to advance scientific knowledge and innovation at the interface of physical, biological, chemical, and engineering sciences, addressing critical challenges in healthcare.
Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and supported by funding from national and international agencies, CBCMT is committed to driving impactful research and translating scientific discoveries into practical applications for healthcare. Through collaborative efforts with leading research laboratories and clinicians, we aim to make significant contributions to the advancement of medical science and the improvement of patient care.
1. Medical Implants
At CBCMT, we are at the forefront of research in medical implants, focusing on developing advanced materials and technologies for improved implant integration and performance. Our research includes areas such as biocorrosion and biomechanics, where we study the degradation and mechanical properties of implant materials to enhance their longevity and effectiveness. Additionally, we explore novel strategies for drug delivery and implant health monitoring, paving the way for next-generation medical implants with enhanced functionality and biocompatibility.
2. Tissue Engineering
Tissue engineering is a key focus area at CBCMT, where we aim to create functional tissue substitutes for regenerative medicine and disease modeling applications. Our research encompasses bone tissue engineering, cardiac tissue engineering, and corneal tissue regeneration, among others. Through the use of advanced 3D bioprinting technologies and biomimetic scaffold designs, we strive to develop tissue mimics and organoids that closely mimic the native tissue structure and function. Our goal is to revolutionize healthcare by providing innovative solutions for tissue repair and regeneration.
3. Cellular & Molecular Therapy
In the field of cellular and molecular therapy, CBCMT is dedicated to harnessing the power of cells and molecular mechanisms for the treatment of diseases. Our research focuses on stem cell delivery, gene therapy, and targeted drug delivery systems, with the aim of developing personalized and effective therapeutic strategies. By understanding the cellular and molecular pathways underlying disease progression, we strive to develop novel therapies that offer precise and targeted treatment options for patients.
Nothing Beats Good Education For The Betterment Of A Student’s Future
With this addition, centre is better positioned to fabricate 3D organoids, tissue mimics, which will also be one of the key focus areas in coming years. The ongoing projects of the center are funded by both national and international funding agencies. The center also has a strong research collaboration with scientists from leading research laboratories across the globe.
